Krang Suri is a waterfall in the Jaintia Hills, near Amlarem, with a deep pool of startling blue-green water at its foot. It is one of the few big falls in Meghalaya where you can swim, with a life jacket, and walk into the small cave behind the curtain of water.
What it's like
A path and steps lead down from the parking area through forest, past a smaller cascade, to the main falls. The pool is deep; the colour comes from limestone in the water and is strongest on sunny days in the dry season. A narrow ledge leads behind the falls into a shallow cave.
Swimming and safety
- Life jackets are compulsory for swimming and are rented at the site (about ₹100–200).
- The pool is deep and cold. Non-swimmers should stay near the edge even with a jacket.
- After heavy rain swimming may be stopped.
How to reach Krang Suri
The falls are about 30 km from Jowai and about 30 km from Dawki, so they fit either a Jowai trip or a long Dawki day from Shillong. Shillong is about 85 km away, 2.5–3 hours. The last stretch is narrow but paved. See our Shillong to Dawki cab, Meghalaya tour packages and the detailed Krang Suri falls travel guide.

Things most guides don't tell you
- Arrive at opening. By late morning the pool fills with groups, and the light is best before noon.
- The steps back up are the hard part; allow 15 minutes and some breath.
- It is a long day from Shillong. Doing Krang Suri, Dawki and Mawlynnong together means 10–11 hours. Two days, or a night in Jowai or Shnongpdeng, is much better.

- Dawki and the Umngot River, about 30 km away.
