About this experience

Bum La is the high pass on the India–China border, about 37 km above Tawang, and a visit is the highlight of most Tawang trips. Getting there takes a special permit from the Tawang Deputy Commissioner’s office, stamped by the army, and a permitted local vehicle — private cars and outside taxis can’t go.

We arrange the vehicle and driver and do the permit run for you. You send us a photo ID and your Arunachal ILP for each traveller on WhatsApp; we collect the permit and pick you up from your Tawang hotel early the next morning. One price covers the vehicle for up to 6 people.

Bum La is above 4,500 m. Spend a night or two in Tawang first, walk slowly and drink water.

Army clearance on the day

The army can close the pass at short notice for weather or operations. If it’s closed, we refund the trip or move it.

₹6,499 per vehicle for up to 6 people with Breeziah, including a permitted local vehicle, driver and the permit run. Tawang taxis usually charge ₹5,500–6,000 for the vehicle alone.

It’s issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tawang and stamped by the army, usually the day before. We do this for you once you send your IDs and ILPs.

No. Only permitted local vehicles from Tawang can go to Bum La.

It can close at short notice for heavy snow or army reasons. If your trip can’t run, we refund it or move your date.
