Guwahati to Bangkok Direct Flight: Schedule, Visa Rules and How to Plan a Northeast and Thailand Trip

Oct 10, 2026 4 min read

From 27 October 2026, IndiGo plans a direct flight between Guwahati and Bangkok, the first international route IndiGo flies from Guwahati. After the first flight, it is planned to run twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 31 October, subject to regulatory approvals. The flight takes about 3 hours each way.

For people in the Northeast, this means Thailand without a change in Kolkata or Delhi. For travellers from elsewhere, it opens up a new kind of trip: Meghalaya or Kaziranga and Bangkok in one holiday. This guide covers the schedule, the visa rules and how to plan it.

Key takeaways

  • Flights: IndiGo 6E 1085 Guwahati to Bangkok, and 6E 1086 Bangkok to Guwahati.
  • Days: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 31 October 2026, after an inaugural flight on 27 October.
  • Visa: since 15 September 2026, Indian tourists can stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days, down from 60.
  • Fares: not yet confirmed by the airline at the time of writing. Check IndiGo's website.
  • Good combination: 5 days in Meghalaya and Kaziranga plus 4 to 5 days in Thailand.

Thailand visa rules for Indians

  • Visa-free for 30 days: from 15 September 2026, Indian passport holders visiting for tourism can stay up to 30 days without a visa. The earlier rule allowed 60 days.
  • Longer stays: apply for an e-visa on Thailand's official e-visa website.
  • Passport: valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
  • Before you fly: check the Thai Embassy in New Delhi's website for any arrival forms or proof of onward travel and funds that you may be asked for.

Rules change, so check the Thai Embassy's website before you book.

Guwahati airport

The flight leaves from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, about 20 km from the city. Its new terminal, with a roof inspired by bamboo, handles both domestic and international flights. Arrive 3 hours before an international departure.

Who the flight is good for

  • People living in the Northeast: a direct route to Thailand without connecting through Kolkata or Delhi.
  • Travellers from the rest of India: fly to Guwahati, see the Northeast, then fly on to Bangkok and home from there.
  • Thai and other foreign visitors: a direct way into Assam and Meghalaya. Foreign nationals need an Indian visa, and some Northeast states need extra permits.

A 10-day Northeast and Thailand plan

  1. Days 1 to 3: fly to Guwahati. Drive to Shillong, then a day in Cherrapunji. See our 4-day Meghalaya itinerary.
  2. Day 4: Dawki and Mawlynnong, or Kaziranga.
  3. Day 5: back to Guwahati. Kamakhya Temple in the morning, then the evening flight to Bangkok on a Wednesday or Saturday.
  4. Days 6 to 9: Bangkok, or Bangkok and Pattaya.
  5. Day 10: morning flight back to Guwahati, or onwards home from Bangkok.

Because the Bangkok flight runs only twice a week, plan your Northeast days around a Wednesday or Saturday departure.

Tips

  • Book early for the first months. New routes often fill up around Christmas and New Year.
  • Travel insurance: recommended for any international trip.
  • Money: carry some Thai baht or a card that works abroad. Tell your bank you are travelling.
  • Luggage: check IndiGo's international baggage allowance, which may differ from domestic flights.
