Wari Chora (sometimes written Warichora) is a stretch of river in the South Garo Hills where the water has cut a deep, narrow slot through the rock. Local boatmen paddle you upstream in bamboo or wooden canoes between walls dripping with ferns, with only a strip of sky overhead. It's the reason most travellers make the long drive to Garo Hills.
What you'll do at Wari Chora
- The canoe ride through the canyon, the main event. Rides last about an hour depending on the water.
- A jungle walk down to the river from where the vehicle stops, around an hour each way.
- Swimming and cliff jumps in the pools, when the water is calm and the boatmen say it's safe.
- Photography at midday, when the sun reaches the canyon floor.
