Car Rental Charges in Guwahati Explained: Per Km, Driver Allowance and Tolls (2026)

Oct 19, 2026 6 min read

Ask five operators in Guwahati for an Innova Crysta quote and you might get five answers between ₹15 and ₹20 per km. The per-km figure is only one line of the bill, though. Minimum kilometres, driver allowance, night charges, tolls, parking and state entry taxes can turn the cheapest-looking quote into the most expensive trip.

Here's how a car rental quote with driver is put together in the Northeast, so you can compare quotes properly.

Key takeaways

  • The per-km rate is one line of the bill; the 250 km daily minimum, driver allowance, night halt, tolls and entry tax decide the real cost.
  • Listed Guwahati rates in October 2026 run about Rs 15 to 20/km for an Innova Crysta and Rs 20 to 34/km for a Tempo Traveller, usually before extras.
  • Hill routes such as Shillong and Tawang cost more because of fuel burn and vehicle wear.
  • Ask for an all-inclusive written quote and the opening odometer reading.

The two ways rentals are priced

1. Local packages: hours plus kilometres

A local package is a fixed block of hours and kilometres inside one city. For sightseeing within a city, you pay for a block such as 8 hours / 80 km. If you go beyond it, you pay an extra hourly rate and an extra per-km rate. This is the usual model for Guwahati city tours, Kamakhya visits and Shillong local sightseeing.

2. Outstation: per km with a daily minimum

The 250 km daily minimum is the distance you are billed for each day of an outstation rental, whether or not you drive it. For trips between cities, such as Guwahati to Shillong, Kaziranga or Tawang, most operators charge per kilometre with a minimum of 250 km per day. If you drive less than 250 km on a day, you still pay for 250. On a 5-day trip, you pay for at least 1,250 km even if you drive less.

Why it matters: a Shillong trip with a lot of local sightseeing and short distances can end up being billed far above the actual kilometres. Ask how the minimum is counted before you confirm.

What other operators list in Guwahati (October 2026)

These are rates Guwahati operators publish online, for example on IndiaMART, NE Fleet and Chikucab (retrieved 19 October 2026). They give you a rough idea of the market. They are not Breeziah's rates, and they vary with season, route and what's included.

VehicleListed per-km rangeListed per-day range
Innova Crystaabout ₹15–20/kmabout ₹3,000–4,600/day
Tempo Traveller (12–17 seat)about ₹20–34/kmabout ₹6,300–9,500/day

Most of these listings add driver allowance, tolls and parking on top, so the real trip cost is higher than the headline number.

Hill routes cost more, and that's fair

Fares for Shillong, Tawang and Itanagar are usually a little higher than for flat routes around Guwahati. Climbing gradients burns much more fuel, wears brakes and tyres faster, and a 300 km hill day takes far longer than 300 km on a highway. Be wary of a quote that charges the same for Guwahati–Tawang as for Guwahati–Jorhat.

Five ways to avoid a surprise bill

  1. Get an all-inclusive written quote that lists every item in the table above.
  2. Ask for the opening odometer reading at pickup, and check it again at drop-off.
  3. Confirm one-way vs return. A one-way drop at Tawang or Dibrugarh usually means paying for the vehicle's empty return.
  4. Check who pays for permits and entry taxes before you leave Guwahati.
  5. Don't pay full advance to someone you can't verify. Use an operator with a real office, reviews and a GST invoice.

How Breeziah quotes

All our vehicles come with a driver, and the driver's allowance and night halt are included in the fare. Night charges, any extra km and entry taxes are shown in your written quote before you confirm, never added at drop-off. The driver shares the opening and closing odometer readings so the final bill is easy to check.
